KHICHDI BIZ RATED – BEST CARDIOLOGIST IN AHMEDABAD & ALL ACROSS INDIA
For over 35 years, Dr. Keyur Parikh has been a beacon of hope for countless heart patients and their families. An interventional cardiologist by profession, he is the chairman of Marengo CIMS Hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he continues to make an impact with his vast experience in the field of cardiology.
Dr. Keyur Harshadray Parikh was born in Tanzania in 1958 and later pursued his medical education in India and the USA. After completing his MBBS from Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad, with three gold medals, he went on to complete his cardiovascular fellowship at UCLA/USC in Los Angeles, USA. Dr. Keyur Parikh began his practice as a clinical cardiologist and cardiovascular interventionist in the USA in 1987, where he also served as Chief of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California.
After an illustrious career in the United States, Dr. Parikh returned to India in 1994, driven by the rising incidence of heart disease and the need for experienced cardiologists in his homeland. His decision to come back was also influenced by his own personal health challenges, including a severe backache that made him consider a slower-paced life. However, the surge in cardiac cases led him back into active practice. He founded CIMS Hospital in 2010, which became a 350-bed, state-of-the-art multi-super specialty hospital and a pioneer in heart transplants and advanced cardiac treatments.
Dr. Parikh’s mission is not only to treat heart patients but also to educate the public about heart disease prevention. His website serves as a platform to raise awareness about the growing incidence of heart diseases and to prepare people to face serious situations like heart attacks with courage and informed decisions. Dr. Parikh believes that understanding heart disease before a crisis occurs can help reduce fear and anxiety during emergencies.
He aims to prepare his readers to confront these life-threatening conditions with both courage and knowledge. In his words, “People usually learn about the grim facts of heart disease when a loved one is already a victim. I hope none of you ever have to go through such an ordeal, but if you do, I want you to be prepared.”
Dr. Keyur Parikh’s dedication to cardiology is deeply intertwined with his personal life. His family has been both his greatest support and his most cherished patients. He shares a special story about his father-in-law, Kanubhai, who entrusted his heart to Dr. Parikh on four different occasions for life-saving procedures. In 1992, Dr. Parikh conducted his father-in-law’s first coronary angiography in California and followed up with multiple procedures, including a stent placement in 2005. He jokes that while his wife, Reeta, gave him her heart once, his father-in-law entrusted him with his heart four times!
Dr. Parikh also treated his father, who underwent a successful bypass operation under his supervision, and his brother, Himanshu, whom he treated with angioplasty after a sudden chest pain episode.
Dr. Parikh’s leadership extends beyond the operating room. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 2004 International Service Award by the American College of Cardiology for his contributions to the international cardiovascular community and the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award in Cardiovascular Science from the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences.
His influence in the medical field is vast. Dr. Parikh has performed over 25,000 angioplasties, 500 peripheral interventions, and 15,000 complex multi-vessel graft procedures. He has also been a pioneer in introducing new technologies, such as Intravascular Lithotripsy (Shockwave Therapy) in India.
Philanthropy is an integral part of Dr. Parikh’s life. Through the Reeta Keyur Parikh Charitable Trust and the CIMS Foundation, he has supported education, research, and the welfare of disadvantaged groups such as widows and orphans. During the COVID-19 crisis, he provided hundreds of hospital beds for COVID patients, setting a model of public-private partnership that helped thousands during the pandemic.
Dr. Keyur Parikh is a man of many hearts: a dedicated cardiologist, a loving family man, a leader, and a philanthropist. His journey from Tanzania to the USA and back to India reflects a lifetime of dedication to saving lives, educating others, and advancing medical science. His legacy is not only in the thousands of patients he has treated but also in the awareness he has raised about heart health, inspiring a healthier future for all.
